Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee for passing SB 378 (Wiener). SB 378 will allow consumers to seek civil penalties against online marketplaces that advertise illicit cannabis and hemp. The following statement may be attributed to Todd Walters, president, UFCW Local 135:
“Now, through online advertising, illegal cannabis and intoxicating hemp products are finding their way to our children more easily because illegal cannabis businesses aren’t held to the same regulatory standard as legal businesses are. These untaxed, untested and unregulated products pose serious health risks to our kids and all consumers. SB 378 will ensure unlicensed operators can’t advertise or sell illegal and unsafe products and protect our kids and public health.”
