Assembly Committee Protects Kids from Intoxicating Hemp

Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded the Senate Business and Professions Committee for passing AB 2223 (Aguiar-Curry) to protect public health and our kids from intoxicating hemp products. Additionally, this bill strengthens enforcement measures in AB 45 (Aguiar-Curry, 2021) and fulfills the state’s commitment to integrate hemp cannabinoids into the regulated cannabis supply chain. The following statement may be attributed to Mark Ramos, president, UFCW Western States Council and UFCW Local 1428:

“UFCW is the nation’s leading cannabis workers union and has been the leading voice for workers in the cannabis industry since before legalization in California. Our members see just how the designer hemp market is producing highly intoxicating, untested hemp products that are easily available to consumers. That’s why we’re co-sponsoring AB 2223 – to protect our kids and public health.”
