Sacramento, CA – The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council today applauded the California Assembly for supporting AB 3262 (Stone), which will level the playing field on consumer safety for online marketplaces like Amazon, holding them to the same strict product liability standards as corner brick and mortar stores. The following statement can be attributed to Joe Duffle, president, UFCW Local 1167:
“Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer with more than half of the market has seen their highest growth in three years due to the pandemic and this legislation helps ensure that Amazon’s growing market share won’t come with additional risks for unsuspecting consumers. We applaud the Assembly for helping place repercussions on this megaretailer when they place dangerous products in the stream of commerce. UFCW members look forward to working with the Senate this session to hold Amazon to the same standards as other businesses and protect California consumers when they click ‘buy now’ online.”
Joining the United Food and Commercial Workers Western States Council in support of AB 3262 are the California Labor Federation, the Consumer Attorneys of California and the California Teamsters Public Affairs Council.
