Assembly Labor Committee Moves Bill Leveling Playing Field for Temporary Staffing Agencies

Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee for passing SB 1032 (Reyes), the Staffing Agency Fair Employment ACT (SAFE Act). SB 1032 creates a clear, common-sense regulatory framework for temporary staffing agencies, similar to the one already in place for contractors and other high-risk industries. The following statement may be attributed to Jacques Loveall, president, UFCW Local 8-Golden State:

“California needs the oversight and accountability in the temporary staffing industry provided by SB 1032 to prevent worker misclassification and protect employees from exploitative practices. SB 1032 is common-sense legislation for a state that prides itself on fair competition. UFCW is proud to sponsor the SAFE Act to ensure a level playing field for all temporary staffing agencies.”
