Assembly Protects Consumers from Illegal Cannabis Advertising

Sacramento, CA – The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council today applauded the California Assembly for supporting AB 1417 (Rubio), which ensures unlicensed cannabis operators cannot advertise on a website, online service, online application, or mobile application.

“When voters passed Proposition 64 in 2016, they were promised strict safeguards to keep children and communities safe. As California’s cannabis industry grows, UFCW members work hard to keep that promise and lift up legitimate cannabis businesses through strict safeguards like tough security, checks for identity and legal age, and trained workers,” said Kevin Coronel, worker at Apothekare and member of UFCW Local 135. “Allowing unlicensed cannabis operators to advertise to consumers online sidesteps all the careful regulations California has put into place to protect consumers, such as required testing for numerous chemicals and other materials. We applaud the Assembly for supporting AB 1417 and look forward to working with the Senate to protect Californians.”

Joining the United Food and Commercial Workers Western States Council in support of AB 1417 is the United Cannabis Business Association.
