Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded the California State Assembly for passing SB 616 (Gonzalez), which will increase the number of paid sick days all workers have access to from three to five.
“We are extremely pleased to see SB 616 pass the Assembly,” said Kathy Finn, president, UFCW Local 770. “Workers in California, including those who work in our grocery stores, packing facilities, pharmacies and beyond, deserve to be able to take the time off work they need without being forced to choose between going to work sick and risking their family’s livelihood. We thank members in the Assembly for supporting SB 616 and getting it one step closer to the finish line. As the bill moves forward, we strongly urge Governor Newsom to sign this bill into law to provide California families more paid sick leave.”
