Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded the Assembly Judiciary Committee for passing SB 378 (Wiener). SB 378 will allow consumers to seek civil penalties against online marketplaces that advertise illicit cannabis and intoxicating hemp. The following statement may be attributed to Matt Bell, secretary-treasurer, UFCW Local 324:
“Illegal cannabis and intoxicating hemp products are increasingly reaching our children through online advertising, as unlicensed sellers are not held accountable. These products are untaxed, untested, and unregulated—posing significant health risks to both young people and the general public. SB 378 will crack down on illegal operators by prohibiting them from advertising or selling unsafe products, helping to protect our kids and safeguard public health and UFCW is proud to support this bill.”
