Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded the Assembly Business and Professions Committee for passing AB 564 (Haney). AB 564 will allow California’s legal cannabis industry to survive against the growing threat of the illegal market by preventing an unprecedented 25% excise tax increase. The following statement may be attributed to Mark Ramos, president, UFCW Local 1428.
“UFCW’s cannabis members see how the industry is contracting – with operators, retail shops and more going out of business on a daily basis because of the high cost of doing business in California. The last thing they need is to have their taxes raised. California has led the cannabis industry since Proposition 64 in 2016, and now we must continue to fight against the growth of unlicensed businesses that put untested, untaxed and unregulated cannabis products into the hands of consumers. We’re proud to support AB 564.”
