Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded the Senate Judiciary Committee for passing SB 378 (Wiener). SB 378 will allow consumers to seek civil penalties against online marketplaces that advertise illicit cannabis and hemp. The following statement may be attributed to Joe Duffle, president, UFCW Local 1167.
“UFCW members who work in our cannabis industry see just how easy it is for kids to buy cannabis and intoxicating hemp online, bypassing our retail stores. We’ve been staunch supporters of California’s cannabis industry since Proposition 64 in 2016, and now we must continue to fight against the growth of unlicensed businesses that put untested, untaxed and unregulated cannabis products into the hands of consumers. SB 378 is a common-sense measure to protect our kids and our public health.”
