Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded the California State Senate for passing SB 378 (Wiener). SB 378 will allow consumers to seek civil penalties against online marketplaces that advertise illicit cannabis and hemp. The following statement may be attributed to John Frahm, president, UFCW Local 5:
“Every day, our members see kids getting their hands on cannabis and intoxicating hemp products online, bypassing the careful regulations we’ve helped put in place to keep them safe. Untested, unregulated, and untaxed products put our kids and other consumers at risk, and that’s why we’re proud to sponsor SB 378. SB 378 will allow California to fight against the growth of unlicensed businesses and protect our kids and public health.”
