CA Senate Helps Shine a Light on Cannabis Industry Licensing

Sacramento, CA – The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council today applauded the California Senate for supporting SB 581 (Caballero), which requires California’s cannabis licensing agencies disclose basic information about cannabis license applicants including the name, business address and license type of the applicant, on the agencies’ websites.

“We’re pleased the California Senate voted to uphold California’s golden state standard of an open and accountable cannabis industry,” said Jacques Loveall, President, UFCW Local 8-Golden State. “UFCW members strongly supported Proposition 64 in 2016 because of the promise made to voters to bring the industry out of the shadows with strict oversight, transparency and accountability standards. This legislation will help the public hold businesses accountable for truthful applications regarding lawsuits or their record of violating labor laws. We applaud the Assembly for supporting SB 581 and look forward to working with the Assembly to keep California’s cannabis industry safe and above board for all consumers.”
