Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded Governor Gavin Newsom for signing AB 8 (Aguiar-Curry) into law. AB 8 provides a comprehensive and urgently needed solution to protect consumers and support California’s legal cannabis industry. The following statement may be attributed to Matt Bell, Secretary-Treasurer, UFCW Local 324:
“AB 8 is long overdue. UFCW members have seen the effects of unregulated hemp products for years and how they undermine California’s legal market. Regulations provide much-needed protections to keep workers and consumers safe, and AB 8 will expand on those protections for consumers, strengthen regulatory enforcement, support industry sustainability, and restore essential cannabis tax revenue. We’re proud to support this important legislation.”
