California Limits Access to Illicit Cannabis and Intoxicating Hemp Online

Sacramento, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council applauded Governor Gavin Newsom for signing SB 378 (Wiener) into law. SB 378 will allow consumers to seek civil penalties against online marketplaces that advertise illicit cannabis and hemp. The following statement may be attributed to Mark Ramos, president, UFCW Western States Council and UFCW Local 1428:

“By signing this bill into law, Governor Newsom is reaffirming California’s commitment to child safety, public health, and fair competition. SB 378 will empower California residents to crack down on unlicensed operators and strengthen protections for our kids and public health, while ensuring licensed businesses have an even playing field. Once again, with this bill, California will lead the industry on protecting children from untested, unregulated, and untaxed cannabis products and illicit hemp, and UFCW members are proud to have sponsored this legislation.”
