Senate Appropriations Committee Moves Essential Legislation to Keep California Consumers Safe from Illegal Cannabis Advertising

Sacramento, CA – The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council today applauded the California State Senate Appropriation Committee’s approval of AB 1138 (Rubio), which ensures unlicensed cannabis operators cannot advertise on a website, online service, online application, or mobile application. The following statement may be attributed to Mark Ramos, president, UFCW Local 1428

“Since 2016’s Proposition 64, voters have relied on safeguards to keep their children and communities safe – including regulations on illegal cannabis advertising. Allowing unlicensed cannabis operators to advertise online with apps or websites directly to consumers side steps all the careful regulations we put into place with that initiative to protect consumers when they buy cannabis. UFCW members will continue to lead the cannabis industry in California to ensure legitimate, licensed cannabis businesses follow policies to keep consumers safe and AB 1138 is a critical bill to do just that. We applaud the Assembly for supporting this critical legislation.”

The United Cannabis Business Association is a co-sponsor of AB 1138 along with UFCW Western States Council.
