Sacramento, CA – Today, the essential frontline worker members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Western States Council applauded the California State Assembly’s vote on SB 95 to expand emergency paid sick leave until September 30, 2021.
“Our essential grocery workers, meat packers and pharmacists, who are mostly low-income, women of color, have had no choice for the past year but to show up for work in person during the pandemic – and they deserve to have access to supplemental paid sick leave,” said Amber Baur, executive director, UFCW Western States Council. “Allowing workers to access additional supplemental paid leave benefits ensures they don’t have to come to work sick in order to make ends meet – keeping both customers and workers safe. We’re glad the California State Assembly voted yes on this critical benefit today and urge the California State Senate and Governor Newsom to support it when it comes before them.”
