Sacramento, CA – This past weekend, over 100 United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) members traveled to Nevada to talk to union members about the importance of voting and voting for Kamala Harris as President of the United States. Nevada is a crucial state in the November election, and union members are critical to her victory in 22 days.
“UFCW members know that Kamala Harris is the candidate that will support their interests in Washington,” said Amber Parrish, executive director, UFCW Western States Council. “The Biden-Harris administration is the most pro-worker administration we’ve seen, from appointing the most pro-union National Labor Relations Board in history and supporting the PRO Act to end union-busting and make it easier for workers to form unions and win strong contracts. UFCW mobilized in force this past weekend to ensure voters in Nevada know that their vote matters and can make a difference for working people.”
“We absolutely made a difference this weekend,” said Maggie Esparza, a price accuracy coordinator at Rite Aid in Belmont Shores, CA and a member of UFCW Local 324. “By knocking on doors, we were able to wake union members up in Nevada and excited to vote in November. I talked to a family of two 18-year-olds who weren’t informed. By talking to them, I got them prepared to vote and knowledgable about the issues at stake this election.”
UFCW Western States Council plans to show up in Nevada the week of October 25 – 27, 2024, with over 150 members to ensure union voters hear from working people about the candidates who will support them.
