UFCW Thanks Angie Wei’s Commitment to California’s Workers; Welcomes Christy Bouma

Sacramento, CA – The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Western States Council released the following statement from Executive Director Amber Baur after it was announced that Angie Wei would be stepping down from her position as Legislative Affairs Secretary for Governor Gavin Newsom:

“Angie has been a long-time champion for California’s workers, and when the pandemic hit, she worked day in and day out to protect frontline essential workers. I know she felt the weight of the responsibility placed on her of protecting those most vulnerable workers, and her leadership and passion were evident in policies coming out of the Governor’s office. She was critical to ensuring California’s workers were kept safe during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic with essential legislation and regulations that protected them on the job and strengthened Cal/OSHA and provided workers with paid sick leave. We know that her next step in her career will continue to advance working people, their families, and all Californians and can’t wait to continue fighting the good fight with her.

“Incoming Legislative Affairs Secretary Christy Bouma shares the goal of UFCW – advancing the lives and livelihoods of our members and all of California’s workers – and we look forward to furthering our working relationship this year. Christy has been a long-time champion for workers and an ally to UFCW members and we know her working with the Governor’s office will only further the day to day lives of working people in California.”
