Sacramento, CA – UFCW Western States Council released the following statements after the San Diego Superior Court ruled in favor of San Diego’s ability to enforce Instacart comply with AB 5:
“AB 5 is the law of the land and UFCW members across the state applaud the court’s acknowledgment that enforcing the law is crucial to delivering the justice workers deserve,” said Amber Baur, Executive Director, UFCW Western States Council. “For years, gig companies like Instacart have banked on the exploitation of workers who live beneath the poverty line, wondering where their next meal will come from or how they will pay their rent next month. We’re proud to have the court rule in favor of these hard-working employees.”
“Today’s ruling should show all corporations they must not underestimate the power of workers standing together and standing up for justice,” said Todd Walters, President of UFCW Local 135. “UFCW members in San Diego and across the state will continue to join together to ensure AB 5 is enforced and to create a state where all workers have the dignity, respect and the wages to support a family.”
